I had really high hopes for this movie. With such a great cast, storyline and special effects I just knew it was going to be awesome and I wasn’t disappointed in the least bit when I saw it with my Dad a week or so ago. I was lucky enough to see it in the biggest theater of the Cinema I went to on a huge screen with very few distractions.
Probably the best part about the movie to me was the fact that it didn’t take itself too seriously. There was enough decent comedy in the film to make it fun and interesting. Tony Starks character played by Robert Downey Jr. had just the right combination of Movie Star and Hero qualities. Not to mention all the funny one liners Stark’s character gets in.
Another great part of the movie was Pepper Potts character played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Gwyneth was able to make a role that could have appeared completely sexist and dated seem more modern and liberated. I would have liked to have gotten more of a back-story to Potts character though, along with the other secondary characters but I’m sure we will learn more as the franchise goes along. I can’t wait to see the next one.

Starring Jackie Chan & Jet Li: I was expecting this movie to be good considering the leads, I mean Jet Li and Jackie Chan are both martial arts greats and have been in many wonderful films. So why shouldn’t this one be right up with the martial arts of Crouching Tiger and comedy relief from Jackie Chan. My hopes weren’t that high but I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as it was.
It’s rare that in the midst of a movie I honestly want to get up and walk out of the film. Very rare. And usually it’s due to the nature of the material being against my beliefs or morals, not because of sheer boredom. This film however is one of those rare gems that I had to fight my way through shouting at the screen at times. The cheesiness of this movie is beyond comparison to any recent movie I have watched. And I’ve seen Bee Movie. In fact I will go as far as to say I bet the Disney Channel TV shows have more original dialogue material than this film.
Jet-Li’s plays a couple of roles in the film and one role is that of The Monkey King where he basically acts like a 6 year old girl who knows kung-fu and has mutton-chops the size of Hong-Kong, oh and did I mention they make him Blonde? Yea, blonde…It just seemed wrong seeing Jet Li like that. I always saw him as this martial arts master but this movie kind of makes him look like a joke.
In all the film seems a bit confused as to whom its audience is. They almost try to copy earlier films like Big Trouble in Little China with the mixture of darker drama, comedy and action but fail in every category to deliver fully. It’s got a lot of comedy that is too childish for adults and teens but yet there a scenes of violence that children couldn’t see, which makes no sense whatsoever. The Kung-fu itself is decent though and were it not for that I would say it was a complete waste of film altogether.
